Loving The Lovers

In selecting the theme for this month’s Tarot Rebels Blog Hop, everyone agreed that it would be a missed opportunity to pass up on The Lovers card of the major arcana, what with Valentine’s Day being a feature mid-February.

Although romantic love sits heavily on the surface of this card, like all cards in the tarot The Lovers is no one trick pony! While the theme of partnership in all of it’s forms (business, platonic, romantic, or otherwise) is prevalent, The Lovers also carries a message of ethical choice, sexuality, duality, discretion, and the development of personal values and beliefs. This is the card of heart-centered wisdom, rather than logical mind-centred knowledge. (side note here: yesterday while exploring the Egyptian room at the museum with my husband, we learned that Egyptians believe the heart was the seat of intelligence rather than the mind, and the organ that played the key role of rebirth in the afterlife.)

When I separated all The Lovers from my various decks to seek inspiration for this post, I felt drawn to explore each card with a quote that would draw upon the theme I felt stood out most from my initial reaction to the image. Here are 14 Lovers from my tarot collection, some sultry, some modest, some singular, but all lovely in thier own way:
